Are you someone who sets resolutions or intentions on the first day of the year? I personally find it easier to set intentions in the spring. It’s easier for me to keep promises to myself when there is more daylight. But I do like to set a word for the year. In 2022 my word was forgiveness. And I spent a great deal of time and energy forgiving others, and just a few weeks ago, I began a journey to forgive myself. It is much harder than I expected it to be. And so I am going to carry forgiveness over into 2023.
For this year, I had settled on the word defend. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that defend doesn’t really suit at this time, because I don’t really have much to defend. So instead, I am choosing the word claim. I am claiming my authority, my power, my crown. And once I have all of that – I will defend it.
I have been pretty happy with those words. However, on Wednesday, I attended a meditation and sound bath class (by the way, I love these classes and the quiet knowing they provide), and the words “genuine connection” also came to me. So I am going to add that as well. After a year of disconnecting from people, and co-dependent and toxic energies, I am looking forward to expand my circle as I become more confident with who I have become.
I am not sure what your New Year’s Day looks like. But mine is usually a cozy one. I stay in pajamas until late afternoon, I journal, reflect, drink coffee, read something lovely, watch an old bitchy movie (The Women from 1939 – it doesn’t get cattier than that), meditate, spend a few minutes tidying, cook something healthy, and go to bed early because I have a class tomorrow morning at 5:30am.
If you have a word to describe your year, or make resolutions please share them. Or if you have plans/no plans to celebrate this day – please share those as well.
Wishing you all a wonderful and healthy 2023.
