Today I did something that is really hard for me to do. I made a new friend.
For a highly sensitive person, and a fairly extreme introvert, and someone who prefers books to people, I tend to shy away from places that contain a lot of people, because I am not fantastic at the art of conversation.
But I spent a good chunk of the morning at the local coffee joint, so I could work away on this blog. A woman sat down next to me, and started asking about what I was doing. And next thing I knew, I was having a great conversation about mental health, COVID19, how remote working has changed the game (good and bad) for workplaces, the mass exodus, and how when everyone stayed home trying to avoid the virus, she discovered how lovely it is to hike our local trails when they quiet are empty of humans.
She was easy to talk to, and I found myself to be comfortable and not at all panicking that a stranger was talking to me. I tend to act a bit crazed when I haven’t had an opportunity to prepare for an impromptu encounter. So welcome to my tribe, Lina.
I hope we run into each other again.
