I have a morning routine and I stick to it 7 days a week (mostly). I wake up at 5am. I make a french press of coffee or a pot of tea, depending on the day. I put on some classical music, and I write 3 things that I am grateful for, 3 things that I plan to do that I am really looking forward to, and a mantra for that day.
Today I was grateful for,
- Being able to be honest about my emotions with others, and how it keeps me emotionally and mentally strong.
- The ability and the opportunity to be alone.
- Having love in my life.
Three things that I was really looking forward to doing today,
- Eating the last of the excellent manchego cheese I bought for my lunch (its my favourite).
- Going to the gym.
- Wearing my white fuzzy sweater that makes me smile when I wear it.
Today’s mantra is,
“The green reed which bends in the wind is stronger than the mighty oak that breaks in a storm”.
After my morning gratitude exercise I write my morning pages, which is basically 3 pages of stream of consciousness journal writing. I don’t usually remember much about what I have written – as soon as the words hit the page, they quickly leave my brain. But today’s entry was all about Divine Timing. And how even for someone who is patient, it can feel a bit too much. I am tired of waiting. I am ready now. But I also know that I am not in control of this. I need constant reminders.
If I still have time before I start work, I will run out the clock by dancing. I will switch off the Brahms and put on something a bit more upbeat (today it was the Go-Go’s – which is one of 3 albums I own that was recorded during the 80s). I prefer almost every other era of music to the overly produced sounds created between 1981 and 1990.
Do you have an every day morning routine? What does it look like?
